Business Support's commitment to providing a professional VAT service alongside payroll and bookkeeping facilities came about through Managing Director Ian Purdon's work as the Practice Manager of a firm of Chartered Accountants. During that time he came across numerous businesses that were struggling to keep their heads above water simply because they were drowning in paperwork.
For many, the dream of having their own business had become a nightmare. Records were not kept up to date so vital management information was not available and important decisions were based on nothing more than guesswork; the time required for payroll and personnel matters increased as each business expanded; and there was the constant worry that, with no access to a professional VAT service, VAT Returns were not being completed accurately. Many businesses lived with the constant worry that at some point the VAT man would descend to inspect their workings!
Ian knew of a few bookkeepers, but certainly not a firm able to provide a dedicated, comprehensive and professional bookkeeping, payroll and VAT service for the north west. Here was an opportunity to offer a complete support service for businesses struggling with the everyday essentials of modern commercial life.
Thus, on the 1st July 1993, Business Support (or, as it was originally called, 'Book-Keepers') came into being. Ian wanted the new company to be professional but at the same time approachable, and since then he has built up a team of qualified and experienced specialists who can provide a complete payroll, bookkeeping and VAT service.
Many business decision makers from across Blackpool and the north west already enjoy the confidence that comes from knowing that the basics of their business are in safe hands while they take it forward. They also have the security of having someone to turn to – someone who will offer support and advice when things have gone, or are starting to go, wrong. This peace of mind can only come about if your business essentials are being taken care of by a suitably skilled payroll, bookkeeping and VAT service.
Wherever possible, Business Support will deal with you directly on any issue you might have but, as a direct result of our excellent reputation, we also have access to specialist VAT services (to act on your behalf in contentious disputes, to Tribunal if necessary) and Employment Law advisors (to assist on contracts and employee disputes etc.).
Remember, prevention is always better than cure – it is far better to receive a VAT planning report than a VAT assessment, and time spent in issuing contracts is infinitely preferable to time spent at an Employment Tribunal!
